Sk-Elf Progress

A couple of nights ago I decided to lighten up the background a bit and made the "spirits" pop out more.  Last night, I started to build my values with detail sepia to bring the Sk-Elf alive.  I will continue to build the lights and darks of the character and then later I will add color.  I still need to work on the skull ornaments.  I don't think I mentioned before, I am using an Iwata Eclipse Brush with Wicked Paint on a sheet of 90 lb white Canson multi-media art paper.  The project is 17 x 24 inches.

Sk-Elf Progress

Okay, so I have worked on the background and painted in some spirit skulls into the boughs of the Christmas tree.  As you can see, I blocked out the sk-elf with a cut out of the figure to preserve the white canvass for when I paint him along with the skull ornaments.

Sk-Elf - Progress

I have finished cutting out the skelf with my exacto knife and tacked it in place on the surface.  This will block out the character so that I can paint in the background which will be a Christmas tree with some twisted skulls in the tree's boughs.  I have also blocked out the skull ornaments on the tree, in the skelf's hand and on the ground.  The background is not the focus of the painting and will be quite dark.  This process will preserve the white surface to keep the character and the ornaments bright and crisp.

I will proceed with sketching out the skulls in the tree and the ground with the air brush going slow and building layers.  This is quite a challenge for me as a beginner air brusher.  Just gotta jump in and learn as I go.  Here we go..

Sk-Elf - December Christmas Airbrush Competition

Yesterday, I finished my sketch for the twisted Christmas themed airbrush competition on the airbrush forum for December.  The background will be changed up a bit as I have a thought in mind on what to do with that.  We shall see if I can pull it off with the airbrush.
This should be a fun try at it.  Going to push my abilities with the brush.  We will see.
